Eastenders plot rewritten
A storyline of the hit BBC soap, Eastenders is being re-written over the summer due to worries on the effects it may have.
The Eastender storyline was that of a kidnapping revolving around the character of Dawn Swann. My suspisions are that the kidnapping would have been carried out Rob’s former wife, Doctor May Wright. On BBC news it read that the storyline was to be re-written after worries that people involved with Madeleine McCann, a 4 year old girl who was kidnapped whilst on holiday, may find it too similar and therefore hurtful.
Along with other blogs I have read, it seems to be that all the media are focusing on this one case of kidnapping, but what about the other missing children? Do they not deserve the same respect and coverage? If every soap or TV programme were re-written due to being similar to a kidnapping, then we would never see a kidnapping storyline again.
It also turns out that the current Coronation Street soap storyline, aired on ITV, of a kidnapping has been scaled down drastically for similar reasons.
A Coronation Street spokeswoman said: “There were some quite disturbing similarities to the situation in Portugal and we didn’t want to add to the torment of Madeleine’s parents.”
