They sure know how to choose them…
I was just watching my nightly intake of television, which mostly consists of the catch-up Big Brother when I saw the most horrific thing, in my opinion, ever in the history of Big Brother.
The latest addition to the household, Brian. A 19 year old, Data entry clerk from Essex was on a ‘Great British Holiday’ which is a caravan in the Big Brother Garden along with Charley. Whilst sitting out in their ‘caravan park’ the discussion about Romeo and Juliet loomed it’s head. Brian being himself as usual, asked what Romeo and Juliet was? My mother and I instantly started screaming at the television “What is this guy? Where did they find him?!” and lowering our heads in shame. At least Jonathan and Nicky who were involved in the conversation knew and quickly saved the day by then explaining that Romeo and Juliet was a great Shakespearean play which was made into a film.
Now picture this. Me sitting on my pouffy opposite the screen, staring at it in anticipation of Brian recognising the name of the famous British, ‘To be or not to be?’ writer and stating that he was being plainly stupid not to recognise it in the first place. And what do I get? “What is a Shakespearean play? Who is Shakespeare?” At this point, I fell off my chair, deeply horrified. He then went on to make matters even worse to ask if “this Shakespeare guy, did he base his play on this Romeo and Juliet film?”
Seriously. Where do these people hide? Do people in Essex live under a rock? How can you not know who Shakespeare is? Let alone one of the most famous plays written by him.
God help him.
