My name is Benjamin. I come from the UK (although I was born in New Zealand) and I have been described as having a ginger personality. Whatever that means. I assume they're referring to my hair and my Ronald Weasley nature. Aside from that, I'm the only male blogger worth knowing.

You can thank Amber for that lovely introduction, but you deserve much more than just a small paragraph showing my nutty nature, therefore if you do wish to find out more, please visit the

Do you read Wordpress?

By the title, you may be a bit confused, but I recently became quite intrigued in the development and build-up to WordPress 2.3 and have found myself being a frequent reader of the WordPress Dashboard articles/Development blog. Most of it I must say just goes over my head, but it is quite interesting to see all the ideas, upcoming features and the effect they have on themes/plugins which people have developed and many people download.

I think I may be one of few who actually read these, but I don’t know. I asked Amber, and she simply said that she only looks there to see if there is a new WordPress version released. I asked why and got this response:

Who wants to read about the latest ‘beta’ test? And ’should poetry be open-source’? With updates like that it’s enough to make anybody fall to sleep.

I agree that some of the articles are a bit of a bore, but the ‘beta’ test articles are actually an interesting read. Personally, it makes me feel part of the development; either by being able to test out the beta, or to know exactly what is going on between each beta version.

Other articles that appeared on my dashboard were Database Scheme Changes. Here I discovered that WordPress are actually changing the tables which have probably been used since the beginning of WordPress are being replaced. This would cause any plugins that use these tables to break as soon as a user updates to the next version. Kind of important to know, huh?

Albeit that the loops found in this article go over my head, I like the idea that WordPress are developing different ways to change the post status.

So do you read the WordPress Development blog, or are you like Amber and just skim it now and again for any updates, and will you start reading it more regularly?

I have no reason to read WP as I don’t even use it, but I don’t read the Textpattern blog either. I’m just not interested in the boring stuff behind the system ^.^;

Sometimes I read it if something catches my eye. If it gets too technical or talks about something I don’t quite understand, I just stop reading the articles.

I read it when I notice it. I’m usually in a hurry and click past the dashboard but if I see new posts, I read them. I agree with you that it’s interesting to knw what’s happening with development.

I’m kind of a skimmer, hehe, but if I see something interesting in the title and/or excerpt I’ll definitely click on it. I’ve been curious about the new 2.3 as well and have been meaning to check it out more lately, hehe! :D
