Car Insurance Fiasco
Why does having a car have to be so hard? After failing my driving test first time, to then having my first car written off in an accident (my dad was driving), then having to wait for a replacement and then to having another accident (which thankfully has turned out to not be my fault), and now my car insurance. Now that just makes me sound like a spoilt brat who wants everything now, which I am to an extent, but it really has been one thing after another.
With being a young boy, car insurance is extremely high, and now the one loop that everybody my age had discovered that reduces the premium by quite a lot, has been blocked by all the car insurance companies my family and I can think of. This ‘loop’ was simply being put as a second or named driver on my parents insurance policy until when I turn 18, car insurance premium goes down by about £300 and I can afford my own policy. Just my luck that my insurance policy runs out 4 weeks before my 18th, and all the insurance companies have changed their policies so not to let young drivers be put as 2nd or named drivers - first problem.
Therefore, to be able to drive again, I wold need to have my own insurance policy, which isn’t totally a bad thing, it would just mean that I can start getting no-claims bonuses a year earlier than planned. I had the idea then to go through Tescos Insurance and use my staff benefits to be able to make monthly payments at 0% interest and get 15% discount. Wrong - because I am under the age of 18 it would be illegal for any insurance company to go into a credit agreement with me. Sucks huh?
So either I pay £2000 upfront for a year’s car insurance (and that is the absolute lowest we could find; the most expensive being £6500) or I wait until my 18th birthday which may only be 4 weeks away, but it is just frustrating not being able to drive.
Bah. *gets dusty bike out of the garage*
