New MacBook Air?
After learning about the new MacBook Air, I decided I would start a topic about it at Snark asking for people’s opinions on this new ‘revolutionising hardware’ that Apple has just showcased. One day later and it has turned into a 6 page thread, not what I was expecting, but hey, it happens!
The general consensus is that it is an overpriced laptop from which you get little for your money. One USB port? You would think that these are the foundations of a laptop! Everybody uses at least one USB port all the time for their mouse, then need another one incase you need to use a USB portable drive, or plug in a printer. No ethernet? Not everywhere has wireless capabilities in the UK yet, and not everybody even knows how one works and likes to stick with the good ol’ethernet! And lastly, the creme-de-la-creme, no CD/DVD drive! You have to use another computer’s drive through wireless to be able to install a programme, or burn a CD. This is the major turn off for me and along with everyone else.
Of course you get the people who are 100% behind every product that Apple comes out with. People who look past the flaws, saying that this laptop has been pioneered for a different market who do not need these extra features. But having no CD/DVD drive in a new ‘revolutionising’ machine in this day and age is something which I cannot see the logic behind.
I think I will just stick with my 2 year old MacBook which is still going strong and sexier than that ‘thinorexia’ piece of technology (as Jordie puts it). If you feel I didn’t really explain my self properly, seeing as I am tired and out of practice, go visit Jem’s post about it.
